Willowherb family

Willowherbs mostly have spikes of stalked flowers and flower in high summer.

Both rosebay willowherb and great willowherb are a familiar sight. The former, also known as fireweed, is quick to colonise waste ground such as after a fire. The latter is at home in any patch of damp ground.

Enchanters nightshade is another common plant but easy to overlook as it grows in shady woodland.
